A number of dominoes could start falling across the West Midlands over the next few hours.
The burgundy and blue have submitted an offer which includes €15million guaranteed for the 27-year-old amid fears Douglas Luiz could leave the club for current Premier League leaders Arsenal and it’s an offer that gold and black have now accepted.
Dendoncker has been linked with a move to both Villa and West Ham United in the past 24 hours, but growing interest in his own midfielder Luiz has seen the Bordeaux and Blue step up their efforts for the Wolves man.
According David Orstein from The Athletic, nothing had been agreed from the Wolves side about an hour ago, however, everything has changed very quickly.
“Aston Villa have made Wolves an offer for Leander Dendoncker,” Ornstein wrote via his Twitter page.
“The proposal for the 27-year-old Belgian international midfielder is €15m guaranteed. Not accepted yet – it will depend on whether #WWFC can agree on fees for the replacement, most likely Boubacar Traoré.
Before adding: “BREAKING: Aston Villa have had an offer accepted by Wolverhampton Wanderers for Leander Dendoncker. Transfer fee €15m in total. Clearance granted by #WWFC for the 27-year-old Belgian international midfielder to pass a complete medical + examination #AVFC movement.”
Dendoncker would not be considered a similar replacement for Luiz should the Brazilian leave Villa Park, with Steven Gerrard still keen to keep the former Manchester City player in the West Midlands.
However, Arsenal’s added interest in the situation has certainly stepped up Villa’s efforts to bring in a new face and now a deal for Dendoncker has been confirmed – it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Luiz cleared to leave.
