Fire breaks out in a high-rise building in Dubai near Burj Khalifa

A series of fires in tall buildings in Dubai, dotted with skyscrapers, in recent years has rekindled questions about the safety of coatings and other materials used in the country.

A fire broke out on Monday in a 35-storey skyscraper in Dubai, near the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.

It was still unknown who was injured in the fire in the building, which was extinguished shortly after the fire.

Char marks from the blaze could be seen stretching across the building which is part of a series of towers called 8 Boulevard Walk by Emaar, the emirate’s public developer.

Dubai Police and Civil Defense did not immediately acknowledge the fire. Emaar did not immediately respond to a request for comment, nor did the city-state’s Dubai media office.

On New Year’s Eve in 2015, a fire spread to the Address Downtown, one of Dubai’s most upscale hotels and residences, near the Burj Khalifa.
