The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., is pleased to announce the hiring of Librarian Kate Shaw as the new Director of Collections and Technical Services. It started on June 1. She replaces Toby Schwartzman, who became director of the Union County Public Library.
Shaw is a certified professional librarian with over 10 years of experience in public libraries, most recently coming from Tredyffrin Township Libraries where she was Director of References and Technology.
As Director of Collections and Technical Services at Brown Library, Shaw will be responsible for overseeing, coordinating and administering collections and technical services and information technology to ensure business continuity. a wide range of public library functions and operations.
“I’m excited about connecting people to the resources they need to enrich their lives and communities,” said Shaw.
Shaw holds a Masters in Library and Information Science from Clarion University. She is active in the Pennsylvania Library Association, where she serves on both the Academy’s Leadership Studies Planning Committee and as a Leadership Academy Mentor. She is a 2013 graduate of the Academy of Leadership Studies and has held positions on the PaLA Board of Directors and the Southeast Chapter.
“I love 8-bit and classic music, old video games, board games, Philadelphia sports, true crime, crafts, performing, tea and my cat, Kismet”, said Shaw.

The James V. Brown Library is open for browsing and pick-up 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
