Chelsea are preparing an improved, formal bid to sign Kalidou Koulibaly whose comments on the proposed move are great reading for Blues fans.

The 31-year-old Napoli colossus has emerged as a fantastic option to slot into Thomas Tuchel’s defence. chelsea are on the hunt for at least two new centre-halves following the free agent departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Nathan Ake and Presnel Kimpembe remain targets for the left-back, although the right-back could soon be locked out by Koulibaly.

Indeed, Napoli finally seem ready to cash in after eight years of exceptional service. Koulibaly only has 12 months left on his contract and he is unlikely to write new terms.

Chelsea have already accepted surprising personal terms with the player. Today Transfer Gossip revealed a five-year deal has been agreed with Koulibaly, who will pocket a net salary of around £163,000-a-week.

Koulibaly may well continue to warrant a five-year deal, although deals of that length are rare for players in their 30s.

Either way, Napoli are still to accept an offer from Chelsea, although Romano has suggested an official offer is coming.

Transfer on the “right track” – Koulibaly

he tweeted Chelsea are ready to submit a £32m bid which could eventually rise to £33.7m pending add-ons. Chelsea have already seen an opening bid of £29.5million rebuffed.

Romano hinted there was a good chance Napoli would accept the improved proposal.

Bolstering Chelsea’s chances of securing the coup is Koulibaly’s drive to make the move.

The Senegalese has reportedly accepted Chelsea as his next club and recently confirmed his move is ‘on the right track’.

When interviewed by a French journalistRomain Collet-Gaudin, Koulibaly replied: “I will confirm that later, but it is on the right track.”

What future for Chelsea?

An official Raheem Sterling announcement could come at any time after signing a £47.5m deal with Man City. Raphinha was another target in the forward line but is close to joining Barcelona.

Hakim Ziyech is wanted by AC Milan, although both clubs differ on the structure of the deal in play.

At the back, Koulibaly will play on the right side of the back three, which means a left centre-back has yet to be signed.

Romano added that Chelsea continue to work on a deal with Nathan Ake to bring their signings from City to two.

Chelsea could have re-signed Ake for £40million when he left Bournemouth in 2020. However, Frank Lampard hasn’t rated the player highly – a view not shared by Thomas Tuchel.
