The Shinde-Fadnavis government on Wednesday appointed Radheshyam Mopalwar, an IAS officer from 1995 who retired in February 2018 as chief executive. (War Room-Infrastructure Projects) at the Office of the Chief Minister (CMO) in Mantralaya.

Mopalwar will keep tabs on a number of infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 10 lakh crore initiated or proposed by urban and public works departments and various agencies including Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, the city and industrial development. Corporation and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Some of these projects include Mumbai Coast Road, Mumbai Transport Link, Metro Corridors in Mumbai and other cities, Mumbai Pune Expressway Expansion, Mumbai Nagpur Samruddhi Marg, Pune Ring Road , Thane and Konkan coastal roads and elevated roads.

The Free Press Journal reported on Monday that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde would personally review the development of the project and appoint a bureaucrat to pursue its completion within a specified timeframe.

The order clearly states that his tenure as DG (War Room-Infrastructure Projects) will begin from the day he takes over until further orders. The CMO will provide the necessary staff and meeting space in Mopalwar.

Mopalwar, who previously held key positions since his retirement, got 7 extensions from the BJP-led government and later Maha Vikas Aghadi’s government, as Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC ). His last extension expires on August 31. He should be in charge of MSRDC VC & MD until further arrangement.

Incidentally, the MSRDC was led by Eknath Shinde during the rule of the BJP and also in the MVA government. Now as chief minister, Shinde is expected to continue to hold the MSRDC and urban development, in addition to the general administration departments.
