Solving Biden’s border crisis by building the wall

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A steel border wall worth three hundred and fifty million dollars, bought and paid for by American taxpayers, is wasting away in McAllen, Texas, watched by taxpayer-funded guards. If it sounds illegal, that’s because it is. We saw it with our own eyes earlier this month during a congressional visit to the US-Mexico border.

Under President Donald Trump, Congress bipartisanly approved funding for hundreds of miles of border wall construction. Materials have been purchased, contracts have been signed and construction has begun. In direct violation of the Impoundment Control Act of 1974, President Biden, on his first day in office, illegally froze the project’s $1.4 billion in taxpayer funding, undoing Congress’s will. for his own political gain.

By unilaterally canceling this construction, President Biden defied the American people and effectively disarmed the Border Patrol agents who were promised this vital tool to secure the southern border. To this day, there are still hundreds of miles of unfinished border wall as record numbers of illegal immigrants pour into the country.

This is a gross abuse of executive power and taxpayers are paying the price. Biden’s border crisis tab runs into the tens of billions.

Last month, 239,416 illegal border crossings were recorded, the highest ever. Each of these migrants receives a health screening, three square meals, a hot shower, accommodation, and a cellphone or other tracking device. They are then flown, at federal government expense, within the United States with no repercussions for breaking the law.

This administration runs a free Costco for illegal immigrants while requiring working-class citizens to drive to store after store with $5 a gallon of gas in hopes of finding food for their toddler. The Border Patrol agents responsible for stocking these shelves need the formula for their own children, but have been told, emphatically, not to take it home. The message is clear – under President Biden, illegal immigrants have a greater right to taxpayers’ money than taxpayers themselves.

The Biden administration emphasized this point again when releasing its fiscal year 2023 budget. The president’s budget mentions “climate” more than 180 times, but does not mention “border security” exactly no times. He’s also calling for an $800 million cut to Homeland Security, while continuing to push to end the Title 42 border policy. Our brave Border Patrol agents are already working around the clock to process the number record of illegal immigrants.

When we visited a processing facility in the Rio Grande Valley area, which averages 10,000 encounters a week, an emotional Border Patrol agent said, “I’m standing in front of an open fire hydrant with bucket. I don’t need more buckets; I need you to turn off the tap. »

Biden’s budget would not just remove those buckets, it would turn the faucet into a spurting fire hose.

Under Title 42, border agents can send home about half of the illegal immigrants they encounter. Unfortunately, the other half is released in the United States. If Title 42 were to end, 100% of these illegal immigrants would be released inside the United States. We cannot let this happen.

The only “winners” from Biden’s open border policies are the cartels, who profit more than $32 million a day from their human trafficking operations. During our visit, we were shown colorful bracelets taken from migrants apprehended by the Border Patrol. The cartels are forcing them to pay tens of thousands of dollars for these wristbands, which are supposed to protect them from kidnapping and extortion while traveling in the United States. Cartels also profit indirectly from human trafficking. Often the cartels lead large groups of migrants into the path of Border Patrol agents. This provides a convenient distraction while cartels smuggle drugs, such as fentanyl, into the United States undetected.

It’s time to put US taxpayers first and uphold the law. It starts with resuming construction of the border wall, increasing funding for homeland security, and restoring law and order. We need an America First immigration policy, and we call on Democrats in Washington to work with Republicans and pass one.
