As one door closes, many will open for Summit Academy educators and students.

Summit Academy North Elementary School celebrated the last day of summer learning by announcing plans for a new building on the elementary campus.

According to school officials, the new construction will house the expanding preschool program and Great Start Readiness program at Summit Academy North.

Plans call for the structure to be 7,200 square feet.

It will consist of three classrooms, a large activity room and an office space.

The planned construction project is the vision of Summit Academy North Supt. Lean Hedke.

“We are excited to begin construction that will allow us to expand our programming for our younger group of learners,” Hedke said.

The news called for a celebration that included students and staff.

They participated in a groundbreaking ceremony, in which the students wore small yellow hard hats and held teal shovels, representative of Summit’s black and teal colors.
