The Ministry of Agriculture launches two technical cooperation projects

By Ruben Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) announced on Monday that it has launched two technical cooperation projects in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The first project, under Belize’s agricultural sector policy, focuses on seeds, backyard poultry, marketing and indigenous territories.

“The goal of this project is to improve the livelihoods of rural farmers and indigenous peoples through the adoption of an improved governance and policy framework that enables diversification through regional trade,” said the MAFSE.

The second project focuses on digital agricultural services for a sustainable and inclusive agrifood system and value chain.

“The goal of this project is to build sustainable, efficient and inclusive agrifood systems and agricultural value chains to achieve thriving rural societies,” MAFSE said.

MAFSE Minister Jose Abelardo Mai was present at the launch along with FAO Representative for Jamaica, Bahamas and Belize, Dr Crispim Moreira, MAFSE Director General, Servulo Baeza, Director of Agriculture , Dr. Victoriano Pascual, and other senior MAFSE staff.
