Piers Morgan claims he expected Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Manchester United following talks between the pair last week.
The Portuguese veteran has remained at home for the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia and there are now doubts over whether he will feature for United this season.
Now Morgan has told talkSPORT that based on their recent discussions, he expects Ronaldo to move on to new pastures.
“I had quite a bit of contact last week. I certainly think it would be very unlikely that Cristiano Ronaldo would play another game for Manchester United,” Morgan told talkSPORT. move on.
“I’m not going to say what we said to each other but as I’ve said from the start, I don’t think Cristiano feels Manchester United share their ambitions. I think he feels the signings they make , the commitment they showed last season, where they finished and a lack of Champions League football…
“If you’re him and you’re coming to the end of your career and you still want to win major trophies, you have to do a calculation. Am I going to do that if I stay at United? I think he thinks the structure of the club from top to bottom is not good This is not a reflection on the new manager [Erik ten Hag]he has a lot of respect for him, but that’s just an accurate reflection of where United are at right now.
“It’s up to him how he feels, but if you ask me, I don’t think he’s going to stay at Manchester United. I think he could end up in a pretty surprising place.
