The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Prestea-Huni Valley, Dr Isaac Dasmani, said his office needed building materials to rebuild damaged houses in Appiatse, a community near Bogoso in the West Region where the explosion occurred on Thursday, January 20. to the destruction of the whole community.

Speaking on key points on Saturday January 22, he said: “I will need building materials because how long can we feed the victims. We want the authorities to come to our aid to start construction as soon as possible.

He added: “By Monday, we will clear the site and start construction as soon as possible.”

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had also assured that efforts were being made to rebuild the community.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who visited the scene on Friday January 21 declared “The government on its side will do everything to support the family, to support those who have been injured. Fortunately, the ambulance service played a major role in rescuing her.”

For the houses that were destroyed, we are already starting to think about how to rehabilitate and rebuild them for the community.

Police said their preliminary investigation established that an explosive mining vehicle traveling from Tarkwa to the Chirano mines collided with a motorcycle, causing the explosion.

“Referring to our previous emergency public notice, the police have taken charge of the situation by providing security to enable emergency responders, including the Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO and the Ambulance Service, to deal with the situation.

“The public has been advised to leave the area for nearby towns for their safety while recovery efforts are underway. A call is also made to neighboring towns to open their classrooms, churches, etc. in order to accommodate the surviving victims.

“In the meantime, the preliminary investigation has established that an explosive mining vehicle traveling from Tarkwa to the Chirano mines collided with a motorcycle, which caused the explosion. Most of the victims were rescued and are admitted to various hospitals and clinics in the municipality of Bogoso.
