The defensive midfielder joined Lille from Hamburg a year ago for £6m.

The Prem target is known for breaking up the game and is a towering presence at 6ft 5in tall.

Onana impressed in his first season in France, making 42 appearances in total for the tenth-placed side.

He started 17 games and helped Lille qualify for the Champions League knockout stages for the first time since 2007.

Onana’s good form led to his first international call-up, taking part in Belgium’s Nations League loss to the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, West Ham completed the £12million transfer for Swansea star Flynn Downes last week.

Downes admits he is in dreamland after signing for his boyhood club at London Stadium.

The 23-year-old joins the Hammers on a five-year deal – with the option of a further year.
